    In this episode of For Funk’s Sake, I finally got the chance to talk with him one-on-one. He opened up about his path—from singing gospel with his grandfather to being pulled onstage by Taj Mahal in 2015, to touring internationally with blues royalty.

Q, as he was known by his closest friends and collaborators, was a trumpeter, bandleader, arranger, composer, producer and winner of 27 Grammy Awards. He worked with Count Bassie, produced and arranged music for Frank Sinatra, and created Michael Jackson's sound. If you've got a collection of music, odds are Quincy Jones is sprinkled in it and you don't even realize it.

    He bought the rights to the book, The Color Purple, and thought Oprah Winfrey and Whoopie Goldberg should have major roles in the film. The list goes on...
